💡 Transformation Guide & FAQ
How do I use this?

First, you need to find your save file. (See below if unsure) Then, close the FAQ and click on the "Load Save" button to upload your save file.

Once we have your save file loaded, you can click on the "Transform Save" button to start the transformation process. This will take between a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the size of your save file.

After the transformation is complete, you can Download your new Save. This will be a bundled .SAVE file, which the Stationeers [BETA] currently expects.

You can now load your new save file into Stationeers and check out your new map!

To get a nice result, expect to do this multiple times; each time adjusting the Offset values until you get a good result. Using a GPS Tablet in-game can help.
Where do I find my save files?

Your Stationeers save files are typically located at:

Documents/My Games/Stationeers/saves/[YourWorldName]/
Look for the world.xml or a .SAVE file in your save folder. This is the file you need to upload.
How do I install the transformed save?

After downloading your world_migrated.SAVE file:

  1. Navigate to your saves folder: Documents/My Games/Stationeers/saves/
  2. Create a new empty folder with your desired world name
  3. Copy the world_migrated.SAVE into this folder
  4. Launch Stationeers and load your world
Backup tip: Keep your original save folder intact until you're sure the transformation worked correctly.
How do I choose the right World Type?

Select the world type that matches what you want your transformed world to become:

This is separate from your original world type. You're choosing what to transform TO, not what you're transforming FROM. You can switch from any world type to any other world type, or just Move your Base on the same Map using the X Y Z offset values.
What do the offset values do?

Y Offset Adjusts the vertical position of your structures. In the old system, terrain surface was around Y=0. In the new system, Y=0 is bedrock.

X & Z Offsets: Move your entire world horizontally. Use this to find a nice spot for your structures.

Pro Tip: Start with the default values, then adjust if needed. Each world type has manually optimized defaults that should work for most cases.
My transformed world looks wrong / My structures are underground / My structures are misaligned. What should I do?

The Transformation often requires iteration:

  • Adjust the Y/X/Z offsets
  • You may use the GPS Tablet in-game to find the nicest spot for your structures
  • Remember that your input is an Offset, not an absolute position
  • Transform again with new values
Common fixes:
• Structures underground? Increase Y Offset
• Structures floating? Decrease Y Offset
• Structure stuck in mountain? Adjust X/Z Offsets (or Y)
I want to move station A down and Station B up on the same map. How can I do that?

With this tool, you can't! You can only move the whole Map you have built with this tool.

But B E H O L D:

You can use the StationeersStructureMover jhugard made in DotNet.

It is able to group your structures into "zones" and move them sperately. Not as pretty and easy as this tool, but it works.

About the tool:
• Can group and move structures seperately
• I also had my fingers in this project :D
• You can compile it from source
• "Just" a "Basic" windows forms utility
(Community) Phantom terrain when transforming base into the ground
  • FAQ entry sent in and written by PeteWasEre — thx!

If you position you base partially in the ground and then dig it out, there may be phantom terrain bits remaining within your rooms that reduce the volume of the frame affecting atmospheric simulations.

You cant see the terrain but it is there. and the best way to check is to walk around with the atmospheric tablet and look for frames that have less than 8000L capacity. If you find one, activate the mining drill in that frame and wave it around the whole frame, then check the tablet again. Repeat until it says 8000L then continue.

You will occasionally see mining animations (dirt spinning off) and gas moving as the atmosphere adjusts. If the capacity wont reach 8000 remove wall or ceiling panels and try again.

I spawn in a Lander capsule and don't see my base. What went wrong?

Make sure that your character is near the Base before Transformation.

  • If the Map you are transforming is not yours, replace the SteamID of the Author in the world.xml with your own SteamID
  • Transform again
My transformed base explodes. What should I do?

Make sure that no terrain is inside any Atmospheres

  • Return here and adjust the Y/X/Z offsets
  • Transform again with new values
What are the Advanced Options for?

Elements to Migrate: Core game systems that get transferred from old to new save. Leave defaults unless you have specific needs.

Types to Remove: Deprecated systems that may cause crashes. Gas canisters and heat exchangers are common culprits.

Prefabs to Remove: Specific items that no longer exist in the current game version.

Warning: Only modify these if you understand what they do. Incorrect settings can break your save.
My save freezes while loading. What went wrong?

Press F3, type exit and press enter. Then type logtoclipboard and press enter.

This will copy the log to your clipboard. Paste it somewhere and check which item is causing the freeze.

You can Select DynamicGasCanisterSaveData & HeatExchangerSaveData in the Types to Remove and try again.
My game spams "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" errors. What went wrong?

Try saving and loading the save again. If the error persists, try selecting DynamicGasCanisterSaveData & HeatExchangerSaveData in the Types to Remove and try again.

Alternatively, press F3, type exit and press enter. Wait a few seconds for the errors to log, then type logtoclipboard and press enter.

This will copy the log to your clipboard. Paste it somewhere and check which item is causing the freeze.

You can Select DynamicGasCanisterSaveData & HeatExchangerSaveData in the Types to Remove and try again.
ROCKETS: My Space Map looks weird. What went wrong?

The Space Map currently does not visually transform nicely, but functionality is not affected. This is a known issue.

You can try to press F3, type SPACEMAP regenerate and press enter. Do NOT do this while the rocket is airborne.

This sadly does not fix the visual issue, but in most of my tries it did not break anything else, which is generally a good sign.

I will try to fix this further in the future, but I suspect a bug in the Space-Map code (Stationeers)

Your Space Map might look weird, but it will still work.
Can I seriously use this to move my old Mars map to Lunar?

Yes, you absolutely now can! The tool is designed to be as flexible as possible.

My Save is 200 years old, can I still use this?

It might. For Legacy saves, you may want to enable [Things] AND [AllThings] from the Advanced Options -> Elements to Migrate.

From Discord: Why can [JacksonTheMaster] do it but the RocketWerkz team can't? Seems a bit strange to me?!

RocketWerkz surely could do it as well, but they use their time (which costs actual money) to deliver you actual features like the new Terrain System instead. I on the other hand had a few days of spare time and a will to transform my old Map, so I did it. Nothing fancy, RocketWerkz could 100% add the logic to the game (though it would need to be re-developed right in the game client by them) (or use my API rocketwerkz!)

What happens to my Data after upload / download?

The uploaded world is deleted almost immediately after the transformation. The download will be deleted 20 seconds after it was downloaded. No Data gets logged or stored.

Why is this tool not open source?

If there is reasonable interest in collaborating, I will consider open sourcing it. But for now, as I am the only one maintaining it, I don't think OpenSource would help

I also want to be able to "turn it off", as I have not yet heard from RocketWerkz if they like the existence of this tool AT ALL.

📁 Save File Upload
📎 Click to select file or drag and drop

Your saves are likely located in a folder like 'Documents/My Games/Stationeers/saves/MyMarsMap'. Open one and upload the 'world.xml' or 'world.SAVE' file.

🌍 World Configuration

With this, you can move your Structures to fit into the new Map wherever you prefer.

This requires trial and error. Transform your Map, load it, and if it looks off try adjusting these values until you get a good result. Using a GPS Tablet in-game can help.

Remember that your input is an Offset, not an absolute position.

Previously, the surface of the Terrain was (roughly) at Y = 0. The new Terrain starts from Y = 0 at Bedrock.

Adjusts the X-coordinate of your map

Adjusts the Z-coordinate of your map

🤖 Open Advanced Options

The Advanced options should only be used if you know what you're doing. This is not just fancy wording - they are likely not required for most transformations, and can be safely ignored if you're not sure what they do. It doesn't really get cooler down here.

The server is processing your savegame. Please wait...

This may take a while depending on the size of your savegame...
